Our Lunch and Learn presentation will be an Employment Law Update by Bruce Henderson, attorney with Phelps Jenkins Gibson & Fowler in Tuscaloosa. Bruce will go over recent employment law changes. But this session will also include an update on important developments with traditional labor relations law. Bruce will update us on how the National Labor Relations Board has drastically revised the laws on holding representation elections, reducing the time to hold an election from 5 to 6 weeks to less than 20 days. He will update you on local union activity as well as providing suggestions on making your organization union-proof, including tips on positive management, to removing potentially offensive policies in your employee handbooks.
Bruce H. Henderson is a partner in the Tuscaloosa, Alabama law firm of Phelps, Jenkins, Gibson & Fowler. Born in Memphis, TN, he graduated from Rhodes College and the University of Memphis School of Law. He is admitted to the bars in both Tennessee and Alabama.
Bruce has tried employment cases representing employers in state and federal courts from California to Wyoming, Ohio, Georgia, Chicago, West Virginia, Michigan, and Alabama. He is a member of the bar of the United States Supreme Court and the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. He has received the highest rating from the prestigious Martindale-Hubbell legal directory (AV) for attorneys practicing in his area. He was also recently named as one of America's Top 100 High Stakes Litigators in Alabama.
His practice areas include all aspects of labor and employment law, including a regular practice before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the U.S. and Alabama Department of Labor, OSHA, and the National Labor Relations Board. He has represented companies in numerous union campaigns and unfair labor practice charges, wage and hour audits, EEOC charges, mediations and arbitrations as well as implementing preventative measures for businesses like employee handbooks, harassment training, and positive supervision techniques.
