Workforce Development Program Manager

The Workforce Development Program Manager serves as a Chamber liaison to the Region 3 Workforce Development Council, West AlabamaWorks! This position will work closely with the K-12 education system on innovative programs to engage students within the workforce system while building alliances and coordinating efforts of local businesses and industries, training providers, Chamber of Commerce, education officials and elected leaders located in West Alabama. The Project Manager will be a central point of contact for any private or public entity seeking information and assistance with workforce training in the West Alabama area. This position will work in a fast-paced environment based on collaboration, communication, and results. 
 
Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate and connect schools with employers, individually and through industry clusters, to determine the region’s current and future workforce needs 
  • Coordinates with local agencies, training providers and the Region 3 Council to provide data and information to state agencies on training needs and workforce demands for the region
  • Regularly communicates with Pre-K-12, postsecondary and higher education officials about the current and future workforce needs as well as current and future projects to build the talent pipeline in the region
  • Publicizes, through all appropriate means, the workforce training programs available through regional training providers and provides a central point of contact for public and private entities seeking workforce training services
  • Refers any requests for training to the appropriate regional training providers and when multiple providers are involved, provides assistance to coordinate the activities
  • Assists with or conducts presentations to individuals, groups, businesses, agencies, elected officials, and organizations to encourage their cooperation and participation and to solicit suggestions, feedback, and partnerships
  • Track West AlabamaWorks! projects and grants including preparation and submission of grant reports
  • Assists with all aspects of planning and execution of the Worlds of Work regional events
  • Meets with students to educate and develop career pathways
  • Coordinates with teachers, counselors, career coaches to inform about different programs and job opportunities
  • Assists with developing a curriculum to assist students with resumes, interview skills, employability skills to be successful in employment
  • Meets with Business & Industry to develop partnerships for student employment opportunities
  • Assist students with navigation through the job process to ensure student success 
  • Performs such other tasks and duties as assigned by the Chamber or the Workforce Development Council
 
 
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Understanding workforce and/or economic development is helpful, but not required
  • Experience and knowledge of K-12 system preferred
  • Must be adaptable to changing programs, workforce needs, and areas of focus
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Must be able to work well with a variety of individuals from education, post-secondary, industry, and government, as all are involved in West AlabamaWorks!
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills 
  • Exceptional people skills with an outgoing personality 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Self-starter with a high degree of professionalism
  • Ability to perform job function with minimal daily supervision 
  • Thinks innovatively to offer new ideas, concepts, and solutions
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs to include Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Must be able to work normal hours of 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; participation in morning and after hour evening meetings/events is also required
  • Occasional out-of-town travel is required
  • Ability to perform all essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation, including regular and predictable attendance, the ability to get along well with others, and represent the Chamber and West AlabamaWorks! in a professional and positive manner
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and lift at least 10-15 lbs.
 
Accountability:
  • Reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) 
  • Maintains a high ethical standard in dealing with information of a highly confidential nature
  • Works cooperatively and positively with all Chamber staff members and West AlabamaWorks! colleagues to promote an environment of excellence and teamwork
