"#blackgirls4change: the Hobson City 9, Cultivating Community and Creating Change," curated by Professor Michelle Bachelor Robinson in collaboration with the Hobson City 9, will be open August 24 - September 30 and is free and open to the public. This hsow is the culminating experience of a community partnership between the historic Black town of Hobson City, Alabama and the University of Alabama [Center for Community-Based Partnerships, College of Arts and Sciences, Department of English, and Program in Composition, Rhetoric, and English Studites (CRES)]. Honoring objectives identified by community leadership, this project seeds to foster historic preservation and youth engagement. There are nine artists total, hence the title the Hobson 9 (adapted from the Little Rock 9 and offering as a model narrative how a few yound people shook up the world). The images included in the show are non-human images from the Hobson City community culture and the lives of the residents. This show is the culmination of the had work of UA CRES PhD and MA students Margaret Holloway and Candace Chambers and University of Louisville PhD student Khirsten Echols, and of course the amazing artistry of Hobson City residents AliyAjh Ball, Zakerriah Hawkins, Jaden Massey, Tesia Nealy, and Melody Williams.
